A Touch of Old to Brighten Up My Kitchen

I blame this all on Jaz at Octoberfarm. She is a bad influence on me and has caused me to pick up a very old habit of visiting Thrift Stores. I have wanted a butter churn for a long time to go along with my scrub board, spinning wheel, etc. In my little visit, this morning, I saw two free-standing butter churns with beautiful floral decorations. When I asked if they were real, the owner said no, they were reproductions. Well, I didn't want reproductions, so I moved on and -- THERE, IN THE CORNER, was this:
a beautiful table model hand-cranking butter paddle churn! Yes. And, it works, too! Not that I'm going to start churning my own butter, but I do like my antiques to work. I'm so tickled. I really am. So, I guess I owe Jaz a big THANK YOU for leading me back down the road to thrift shops. My daughter's going to just love it when she has to settle my estate.

  4. Oh wow!! I have not seen one with a jar that shape! The ones I see are always square. I am looking forward to churning my own butter this spring, but I am a little more modern in my churning than the old hand cranks :)

  5. @Lori - I'm going to give it a try. I finally really checked the paddles for nick etc., and they seem in great condition.

@jaz - I know. I couldn't believe it when I saw it, right before my eyes! So used to the floor models, almost passed it by. Thank God, I trust my subconscious.

@Emma - I'm not sure I can afford regular visits to thrift shops! But, I do love them.

@Tammy - I know. At first, I thought it was a bell jar... I've been making butter in my blender, but will probably give this a try.

@Christina - "You give that back!" Guess I'm gonna have to sleep with Old Betsy in my arms -- if you get my drift...
